Viewport is stuck and won’t zoom or scaleīefore getting into these issues, it’s important to remember that viewports are tiny windows in paper space which allow you to see things in model space.Scrolling to zoom in and out without actually zooming in or out.Typical problems that people run into with viewports in AutoCAD are: If you set that figure to 0.01 you have 1:100, 0.02 is 1:50 and so on. If you have been zooming in and out with your mouse wheel, the standard scale box might be blank and your custom scale will have a decimal value in it like “0.123”. It’s good practice to stick to standard scales like 1:50, 1:100 etc, but occasionally you might need to use !:33 or 1:75 to fit everything in – this is where custom scale comes in really handy. If you are doing this solo, you will have to experiment with sizes of text, plans and elevations etc, but you can always start with 1:100 and go up or down from there if it is too small or too large. The answer to that depends on the size of your drawing sheet, the size of the thing you are drawing and at what size it will be printed at (if at all). You can either select a standard scale from the drop down or type in a decimal value for a custom scale. If you select a viewport with the properties window open you will see the scale displayed in two boxes one is the Standard scale, the other is Custom Scale. To do this, right click in the middle of the screen somewhere and select the option at the bottom, “Properties”. I keep the properties window open all the time when using AutoCAD and I have it docked to the left hand side of my screen, but it is not shown by default in AutoCAD so you have to open it yourself the first time. The way I change the scale for the viewports on all of my drawings is with the properties window.
